Take Caltrain To Giants Doubleheader on July 23

Let’s play two! The Giants will square off against the Cincinnati Reds for a unique doubleheader matchup on July 23 at AT&T Park, and Caltrain will be offering up special service for the fans on that day.

The rail agency will be increasing its capacity on trains leading up to the 4:05 p.m. start time of the doubleheader’s opener. Following the completion of the second game, Caltrain will operate two extra trains to carry the crowds. An express train will depart 15 minutes after the game ends, or when full, making its first stop in San Carlos. Then, it will operate as a local to the San Jose Diridon station.  An extra local train will depart San Francisco 25 minutes after the end of the game, or when full, making all local weekday stops to San Jose.

Alcohol will be prohibited on the trains after 9 p.m. Disruptive passengers will be asked to detrain.

Tuesday’s doubleheader is the result of a rain cancellation of the Giants’ July 4 game against the Reds in Cincinnati. Because of that, the Reds will actually be the “home team,” for the first game, wearing white shirts and batting last. The teams will switch jersey colors for the second game, with the Giants’ resuming their usual role as the home squad.

The second game will start no earlier than 7:15, or 30 minutes after the end of the first. Giants’ fans can purchase one ticket for both games.

About Caltrain:
Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain has enjoyed 28 consecutive months of ridership increases, surpassing more than 50,000 average weekday riders earlier this year. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad will celebrate 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor by 2019, reducing diesel emissions by 90 percent and adding more service to more stations.
