Caltrain Service to Sports Events Sunday, May 5

Peninsula sports fans are facing a hard choice Sunday, May 5 when the Sharks meet the Canucks in a post-season playoff and the Giants play the Los Angeles Dodgers.  The Sharks game begins at 7:00 p.m. at HP Pavilion in San Jose. The Giants throw the first pitch at 5:05 p.m. at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

Caltrain will operate regular Sunday service, supplemented by its regular post-baseball game trains.

There will be no extra post-game service for the Sharks game. The last northbound train will depart San Jose at 9:00 p.m., making all regular local stops, including Atherton and Broadway.

Caltrain will operate two special trains after the Giants game. An express train to San Carlos will leave approximately 15 minutes after the last out, or when full, and make all locals stops from San Carlos to the San Jose Diridon station. The second train will depart San Francisco 25 minutes after the game, or when full, and serves all local stops to San Jose Diridon.

The last regularly scheduled train leaves San Francisco at 9:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Caltrain reminds fans to drink responsibly and to remember that alcohol is not allowed on game-day trains beginning at 9 p.m.

Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system; tickets are not sold on board trains but can be purchased at vending machines at the stations. To save time on the return trip, fans are encouraged to buy a Day Pass. Clipper card users (e-cash and 8-ride tickets) are reminded to tag on and tag off.

About Caltrain:   Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain has enjoyed 28 consecutive months of ridership increases, surpassing more than 50,000 average weekday riders earlier this year. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad will celebrate 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the corridor by 2019, reducing diesel emissions by 90 percent and adding more service to more stations.
