Transit Police Investigation Leads to Arrest

Ricardo Arias Cano, an Amtrak employee who worked as a conductor on Caltrain, has been arrested for three alleged incidents of inappropriate behavior with a female minor. Cano is 60 years old and resident of South San Francisco. The arrest is the result of an aggressive investigation by San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Transit Police Bureau.

The arrest warrant includes: one count of contact with a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense, which is a felony; two counts of false imprisonment by means of deceit, also a felony; one count of annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18, which is a misdemeanor and one of soliciting to engage in lewd or dissolute conduct, also a misdemeanor.

Because of the severity of the allegations, Cano has been barred from Caltrain property.

“The type of behavior alleged in the complaint will not be tolerated,” said Caltrain Chief of Protective Services Dave Triolo.

Caltrain has a contract with Amtrak to operate the commuter rail service. The Transit Police Bureau provides law enforcement services to Caltrain and the San Mateo County Transit District under a contract approved in 2002.
