Kick Off the Holiday Season at Transit Toy Drive Event

While shopping on Black Friday, consider picking up an extra gift for a child in need. In celebration of the holiday season and giving back to the community, SamTrans and Caltrain are once again hosting a toy drive drop-off event.

WHO:  SamTrans and Caltrain employees and holiday costumed characters from the North Pole.

WHAT:  SamTrans and Caltrain will host a Transit Toy Drive event to collect new, unwrapped toys and books for the Salvation Army and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots Program. Those in attendance will be treated to holiday music, cookies, hot chocolate and other goodies. The SamTrans mini-bus also will be on display.

WHEN:  Monday, Nov. 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE:  San Mateo County Transit District headquarters, 1st floor main lobby area, located at 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.

WHY:  The San Mateo County Transit District has sponsored a toy drive since 2001. In years past the Caltrain Holiday Train, a glittering show-train decorated with thousands of lights, ushered in the holiday season on the Peninsula, stopping at selected stations and collecting thousands of toys. Although budget considerations forced the suspension of the Holiday Train in 2010, SamTrans and Caltrain have continued to conduct a toy drive, collecting more than 45,000 gifts for needy Bay Area children.
