Kick-off the Holiday Season This Friday at the Transit Toy Drive Celebration

WHO: Representatives from the Salvation Army and U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, in addition to Santa and his North Pole Friends.

WHAT: A toy drive to collect new, unwrapped toys and books for the Salvation Army and the Marine’s Toys for Tots Program. Those in attendance will be treated to holiday music by the West Bay Community Band, cookies and cupcakes from Raison d’Etre Bakery, and other holiday goodies. The SamTrans mini-bus also will be on display.

WHEN: Friday, Dec. 3 from 5 to 6 p.m.

WHERE: San Mateo County Transit District headquarters, in the front plaza and lobby area, located at 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.

WHY: Budget issues forced the suspension of the annual Holiday Train this year. However, Transit District officials feel it is important to host a smaller-scale goodwill event to give a brighter holiday season to families in need, and maintain the community partnership built with the Salvation Army and the Marines over the past 10 years.
