Giants Lincecum Pitches from Caltrain’s Gallery Car

Most San Francisco Giants fans have seen Pitcher Tim Lincecum throw from the mound at AT&T Park, but few have seen him pitch from a Caltrain Gallery Car. The Giants will kick-off their 2010 season with a giant-sized ad showing the pitcher delivering his signature pitch. The baseball team is advertising on one Caltrain car for a month, and is rolling on the line beginning this week.

Caltrain also is revving up for the Giants’ home pre-season opener against the Oakland A’s Thursday, April 1 and Friday, April 2 at 7:15 p.m. when fans converge on AT&T Park. From the Caltrain terminal at Fourth and King streets, it’s a one-block walk to the ball park. The pre-season will continue with one more exhibition game at the AT&T ballpark when the Giants face the Seattle Mariners Sunday, April 4 at 12:05 p.m.

For weekday games, fans have a choice of seven regularly scheduled trains that arrive in San Francisco before the first pitch. On Sundays, trains run hourly. In addition, a special train will depart the San Jose Diridon station at 9:56 a.m., arriving in San Francisco at 11:20 a.m.

After the games, two special trains will depart San Francisco for the return trip. An express train to San Carlos leaves approximately 15 minutes after the last out, or when full, and then makes all locals stops after San Carlos to the San Jose Diridon station. The second train departs San Francisco 25 minutes after the game, or when full, and serves all local stops to San Jose Diridon, including Broadway and Atherton during weekend games. Caltrain reminds fans to drink responsibly and to remember that alcohol is not allowed on game-day trains beginning at 9 p.m.

Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system; tickets are not sold on board trains but can be purchased at vending machines at the stations or at the San Francisco or San Jose ticket offices. To save time on the return trip, fans are encouraged to buy a Day Pass.
