Caltrain to Rebuild San Mateo Rail Crossing
Caltrain to Rebuild San Mateo Rail Crossing
Caltrain will rebuild the railroad crossing at 25th Avenue in San Mateo to improve safety for pedestrians and drivers. The work will take place over two weekends and is expected to start in early spring due to contractor ramping up.
Throughout the project, at least one lane of 25th Avenue will remain open at the crossing. Flagmen will direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction.
Neighbors will hear construction noise from saws and jack hammers removing concrete, cranes lifting track panels, heavy equipment moving gravel and trucks placing asphalt. Two portable light towers, powered by a diesel generator will be used for night work.
The improvements, which are part of a two-year project to improve 25 grade crossings in the county, include clearly marked pedestrian crossings with fencing, warning signals and gates, new sidewalks and center medians to prevent drivers from going around the crossing gates.
