Caltrain to Build Accessible Boarding Platforms at Sunnyvale Station
Caltrain will build mini-high boarding platforms at the Sunnyvale station to improve accessibility to the train for people who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices. The concrete ramps provide level-access to the Bombardier cars, eliminating the need to use a manual lift. The work will take place over two weekends and is expected to start in early spring due to contractor ramping up.
The platform will remain open to customers during the construction. Street parking on W. Hendy Avenue next to the station will not be available.
Neighbors will hear noise from back-up alarms and other construction equipment. Two portable light towers, powered by a diesel generator, will be used for night work.
To minimize any disturbance to neighbors, construction crews will make every effort work as quickly and quietly as possible.
