Caltrain: the Sane Way to March Madness
Caltrain: the Sane Way to March Madness
March Madness fans can keep their sanity by taking Caltrain to the first and second round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball championships at HP Pavilion, located across from the San Jose Diridon Caltrain Station.
The fun begins March 17, when each of the eight teams participates in a 40-minute practice session at the pavilion. There is no admission charge to watch the open practice that begins at noon.
First-round games begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 18 with (4) Vanderbilt (ranked #20 nationally) vs. (13) Murray State. Second-round games are scheduled for Saturday, March 20.
A number of trains arrive in time for the tip-off. The last weekday train departs the San Jose station at 10:30 p.m. and makes all regular local stops.
Caltrain is a proof-of-payment system; tickets are not sold onboard trains but can be purchased at vending machines at the stations or at the San Francisco or San Jose ticket offices. To save time on the return trip, fans are encouraged to buy a Day Pass.
