Caltrain Revises Service & Fare Recommendations

Caltrain Revises Service & Fare Recommendations

Caltrain staff will be making a modified recommendation to its Board of Directors this Thursday regarding fare and service changes. The presentation will take place as part of a 10 a.m. public hearing at Caltrain’s administrative offices, 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.

Recommendations will include:

  • Reducing weekday midday service to hour headways
  • Increasing the Go Pass price from two zones to three zones
  • Increasing parking fees to $3 a day and $30 a month
  • Staff is prepared to recommend against any further consideration of these other items that had been under review:

  • All other fare increase proposals
  • Suspension of all weekend service
  • Suspension of Gilroy service
  • Onboard bicycle fee
  • The revised adjustments would provide a combination of $2.7 million in revenue and savings, which would help close the agency’s Fiscal Year 2010 budget gap.

The board will receive public comment at the hearing and take action at a subsequent meeting, tentatively scheduled for the end of the month. While Caltrain anticipates being able to present a balanced FY2010 budget, service and fare adjustments may have to be implemented the following fiscal year.
