Construction

San Bruno Grade Separation Project

Pile driving, which is the first step in the construction of the foundation of the grade separation, began in February. Pile driving is currently on hold and will resume during the first week of June. The pile driving, which can be very noisy, will be limited to weekday daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The work will involve excavation, drilling and machines that hammer or drive columns into the ground. Approximately 100 piles will be driven into the ground over the course of three weeks.

Other work, which includes digging with a backhoe and mini-excavator will be done from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crews will install temporary shoring, install utility infrastructure, install drainage systems, prepare foundations, install rebar and pour concrete. Crews will use medium and heavy duty diesel vehicles to transport dirt and concrete.

Night work will occur from Tuesday, May 29, through Friday, June 1, between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Crews will excavate, perform minor paving and install temporary shoring in preparation for pouring foundations and building retaining walls.

The $147 million project will elevate the Caltrain tracks above three existing at-grade street crossings at San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus avenues. A new elevated Caltrain station between San Bruno and San Mateo avenues will replace the station at Sylvan Avenue.

Maintenance

Caltrain will perform routine maintenance at several locations next week. To avoid delays to passengers, the work will take place Sunday through Friday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be some construction noise, but crews will work as quietly as possible.
