Caltrain Construction and Maintenance: May 19 to 25, 2012

Construction

San Bruno Grade Separation Project

Pile driving, which began in February, is currently on hold. Other work, which includes digging with a backhoe and mini-excavator, will be done from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crews will install temporary shoring, install temporary paving, install utility infrastructure, prepare foundations, install rebar, and pour concrete. Medium- and heavy-duty diesel vehicles will be used to transport dirt and concrete.

Night work will occur from Sunday, May 19, through Friday, May 25, between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Crews will excavate and install and remove temporary shoring in preparation for pouring foundations and retaining walls. Walls also will be installed along the right of way.

The $147 million project will elevate the Caltrain tracks above three existing at-grade street crossings at San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus Avenues. A new elevated Caltrain station between San Bruno and San Mateo Avenues will replace the station at Sylvan Avenue.
