Caltrain Construction and Maintenance: June 30 to July 6, 2012
Construction
San Bruno Grade Separation Project
Pile driving, which is an essential step in the construction of the foundation of the grade separation, began in February. Pre-drilling holes in preparation for the resumption of pile driving will continue this week. Pile driving is scheduled to continue this week, with the exception of the Fourth of July. The drilling and pile driving will be limited to weekday daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The work will involve excavation, drilling and machines that hammer or drive columns into the ground. A total of 100 piles will be driven into the ground over the course of two weeks. At times, noise levels could be as high as 75 decibels, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Other work, which includes digging with a backhoe and mini-excavator, will be done in the daytime from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crews will excavate, install temporary shoring, demolish concrete, install utility infrastructure, prepare foundations, install rebar and pour concrete. Crews will use medium and heavy duty diesel vehicles to transport dirt and concrete.
Night work will occur from Sunday, July 1, through Friday, July 6, between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Crews will excavate and install temporary shoring in preparation for pouring foundations and building retaining walls.
The $147 million project will elevate the Caltrain tracks above three existing at-grade street crossings at San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus avenues. A new elevated Caltrain station between San Bruno and San Mateo avenues will replace the station at Sylvan Avenue.
