Construction
San Bruno Grade Separation Project
Day work will take place Monday, Feb. 6 to Friday Feb. 10 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and will require the use of a backhoe, mini-excavator and jackhammer. At times, noise levels could be as high as 75 decibels.
Rebar will be installed and concrete pouring will occur, requiring the use of a concrete mixer mounted on a diesel truck. Aggregate material will be loaded and unloaded in large trucks.
Pile driving will commence. This work may involve delays for motorists at San Bruno and San Mateo avenues intersection and may require temporary lane closures. Traffic cones and flaggers will direct motorists and pedestrians around the affected areas.
Night work will take place from Sunday, Feb. 5 to Thursday Feb. 9 between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m., outside of peak passenger service hours and will include the use of a backhoe, mini-excavator, and jackhammer. Rebar will be installed and concrete pouring will occur, requiring the use of a concrete mixer mounted on a diesel truck. At times, noise levels could be as high as 75 decibels. Crews will use generators to power portable light towers. Night work will be done in accordance with Caltrain and city agreements and ordinances.
The $147 million project will elevate the Caltrain tracks above three existing at-grade street crossings at San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus avenues. A new elevated Caltrain station between San Bruno and San Mateo avenues will replace the station at Sylvan Avenue.
San Jose Diridon and Santa Clara Stations Improvement Project
Monday, Feb. 6 to Friday Feb. 10 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. crews will install median fencing and sliding gates and complete final “punch list” items.
At the Santa Clara station a new northbound platform allows two trains to pass through the station at the same time, eliminating a bottleneck in the Caltrain system. The new pedestrian underpass also improves safety at the station.
In San Jose, two new platforms and four new tracks will improve train movement at this busy station that also serves ACE, Amtrak, Capitol Corridor and Union Pacific trains.

To avoid delays to passengers, the work will take place Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be some construction noise from equipment used to accomplish the work, but crews will work as quietly as possible.
