Construction
San Bruno Grade Separation Project
Work on the grade separation project will take place during the week, from Saturday, Dec. 17 to Friday, Dec. 23.
On Saturday, Dec. 17, the intersection of First and Angus avenues will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crews will close the intersection to through traffic to work on a trench that houses electrical and communication utilities. Traffic cones, signs, and flaggers will direct vehicles towards detour routes.
Additional day work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. This work will include asphalt and concrete work at the San Bruno and San Mateo avenues intersection, grading, relocating communication utilities, constructing drainage systems and tracks for the shoofly, installing permanent lighting and other amenities at the temporary station, upgrading signal systems, installing crossing gates at Angus Avenue, track work, and sanitary sewer relocations. Motorists should expect delays. Relocation of sanitary sewers will primarily occur at Angus and Huntington avenues and may require temporary lane closures. Traffic cones and flaggers will direct motorists and pedestrians around the affected areas.
Night work will take place from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., outside of peak passenger service hours. This work will include earthwork, improving crossing gates at San Mateo Avenue, and relocating communication utilities. Digging work will require the use of a backhoe, mini-excavator and jackhammer. At times, noise levels could be as high as 75 decibels. Crews will use generators to power portable light towers. Night work will be done in accordance with Caltrain and city agreements and ordinances.
The $147 million project will elevate the Caltrain tracks above three existing at-grade street crossings at San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus avenues. A new elevated Caltrain station will be constructed between San Bruno and San Mateo avenues, replacing the existing station at Sylvan Avenue.
Santa Clara Station Improvement Project
Beginning Monday, Dec. 19, northbound passengers will board trains from the newly constructed center platform at the Santa Clara station. Passengers may access the platform through the new pedestrian underpass connecting the north- and southbound platforms.
Southbound passengers will continue to board from the southbound platform, closest to the station building.
For safety passengers are advised to observe all posted signs and follow directions from identified ambassadors and conductors.
Friday, Dec. 16 to Monday, Dec. 19, crews will complete from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. to open the new center platform and align the new signal systems and tracks.
Additional work will occur from Monday, Dec. 19 to Friday, Dec. 23, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crews will also conduct night work from Monday, Dec. 19 to Thursday, Dec. 22, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 4 a.m.
The south parking lot at the station will be closed until the station improvement project is completed. Passengers are asked to follow signs directing them to additional parking on the western side of the station.
The work is part of an 18-month station improvement project that will allow two trains to pass through the station at the same time and improves the safety for pedestrians in the station.

Jerrold Avenue Bridge Replacement Project
From Monday, Dec. 19 to Friday, Dec. 23, crews will replace sidewalks, repave Jerrold Avenue, and stripe the road between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Jerrold Avenue continues to be temporarily closed to through traffic between Rankin and Quint streets. The closure has been extended to allow more time to dismantle the old bridge that was replaced in October.
San Mateo Bridges Rehabilitation Project
Caltrain is nearing completion on the rehabilitation project in San Mateo. Crews will work between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday, Dec. 19 to Friday, Dec. 23.
The project involved seismic improvements to the bridges that cross Poplar, Santa Inez, Monte Diablo and Tilton avenues. In the past few weeks, crews also repaved the roadways underneath the bridges and painted bridge structures.
San Jose Diridon Station Improvements Project
Caltrain will work between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the San Jose Diridon station from Monday, Dec. 19 to Friday, Dec. 23. This is part of the 18-month long San Jose Diridon and Santa Clara Stations Improvements Project. The crews will work on signal upgrades and install amenities for the new platforms. These improvements to the San Jose Diridon terminal will improve train movements in and out of the terminal.
Maintenance
Caltrain will perform routine maintenance at several locations next week. To avoid delays to passengers, the work will take place Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be some construction noise from equipment used to accomplish the work, but crews will work as quietly as possible.
