Construction
San Bruno Grade Separation Project
Pile driving, which is the first step in the construction of the foundation of the grade separation, began in February. Pile driving is on hold this week. A total of 361 piles will be driven into the ground over the course of six to eight weeks. More than 320 piles have been driven to date.
Other work, which includes digging with a backhoe and mini-excavator will be done from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hydroseeding and sandblasting of concrete will occur, and temporary shoring will be installed in preparation for concrete pouring. Crews will prepare foundations and pour concrete.
Night work will occur from Sunday, April 15, through Friday, April 20, between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Crews will excavate and grade in order to prepare for construction of retaining walls. Temporary shoring will be installed in preparation for building the retaining walls.
The $147 million project will elevate the Caltrain tracks above three existing at-grade street crossings at San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus Avenues. A new elevated Caltrain station between San Bruno and San Mateo Avenues will replace the station at Sylvan Avenue.
