Caltrain Comes in First in the Race to Bay to Breakers

Runners going to the Bay to Breakers race Sunday, May 15 can conserve their energy by taking Caltrain to San Francisco.

Four special northbound express trains will provide service to the race. The Special A train will depart the Mountain View Caltrain Station at 5:10 a.m. and express to San Francisco, arriving by 6:08 a.m.; the Special B train will leave the San Jose Diridon station at 5:20 a.m.; the Special C train will depart the San Jose Diridon station at 5:25 a.m.; and the Special D train will leave at 5:30 a.m. Each train will only stop at a limited number of stations and all trains will arrive in San Francisco by 6:40 a.m.

This year, Caltrain will not be servicing the Santa Clara station due to construction work being done. The work is part of an 18-month station improvement project that will add a new wider, longer center-boarding platform and extend the southern platform 150 feet.

No one will be allowed to board the special trains unless in possession of a valid ticket. All customers are encouraged to arrive early to ensure enough time to purchase a ticket. One-way tickets or Day passes can be purchased at ticket vending machines at the stations before boarding.

The starting line is about 1.4 miles from the San Francisco Caltrain Station at Fourth and King streets. Participants can walk to the starting line or take Muni T-Third light rail line. After the race, two express trains to San Carlos will depart San Francisco at 1:10 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. The trains will make all regular local weekend stops to San Jose Diridon.
