Caltrain Comes in First in the Race to Bay to Breakers

Runners going to the Zazzle Bay to Breakers race Sunday, May 20 can conserve their energy by taking Caltrain to San Francisco.

Four special northbound express trains will provide service to the race. The Special A train will depart the Palo Alto Caltrain Station at 5:30 a.m. and express to San Francisco, arriving by 6:08 a.m.; the Special B train will leave the San Jose Diridon station at 5:20 a.m.; the Special C train will depart the Santa Clara station at 5:30 a.m.; and the Special D train also will leave at 5:30 a.m. from the San Jose Diridon station. Each train will only stop at a limited number of stations and all trains will arrive in San Francisco by 6:41 a.m.

For the first time, Caltrain is offering One-way tickets and Day passes for pre-sale at all station ticket vending machines. A special day parking permit also is available for purchase at the same time. No one will be allowed to board the special trains unless in possession of a valid ticket. All customers are encouraged to arrive early to ensure enough time to purchase a ticket on the day of the event.

Customers with Clipper® cards can buy a parking permit early too from the ticket vending machines by pressing the “Bay to Breakers” button and following the screen prompts.

The starting line is about 1.4 miles from the San Francisco Caltrain Station at Fourth and King streets. Participants can walk to the starting line or take Muni T-Third light rail line. After the race, three express trains to San Carlos will depart San Francisco at 1:10 p.m., 2:10 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. The trains will make all regular local weekend stops to San Jose Diridon.

Caltrain would like to remind customers that Bay to Breakers does not allow alcohol or floats. Caltrain also will be live tweeting the morning of the event. Information will be available on Twitter @Caltrain_News or on the Caltrain website News Page.
