Caltrain Carries Thousands of Additional Riders to Giants Celebration
Caltrain became a part of the Giants winning season Wednesday when it carried an additional 25,000 to 30,000 riders to the Giants parade and celebration in downtown San Francisco.
Baseball fans began lining up in the wee hours of the morning at numerous Caltrain stations to see the Giants celebrate winning the World Series for the first time since 1954.
Caltrain ran nine extra northbound trains and six extra southbound trains. Throughout the day, Caltrain ambassadors worked at various stations to assist customers. Staff also was on-hand at the San Francisco and Millbrae stations Wednesday afternoon to help riders with the Ticket Vending Machines, which sold 26,000 tickets for $210,000. By comparison, TVM sales on a normal first Wednesday of the month is about 9,000 in tickets for $71,000.
In addition, Caltrain’s Customer Service Center received 3,233 calls Wednesday compared to a regular weekday average of 2,000 calls per day.
“Caltrain would like to thank our commuting public for their patience on that historic day, and for allowing Caltrain to provide them with a safe ride to and from The City,” said Director of Rail Transportation Michelle Bouchard.
