Caltrain to Hold Public Meetings on Business Plan

Caltrain will host a series of community meetings on its Business Plan in order to give the public an overview of the plan process and an opportunity to provide feedback.

The Business Plan’s strategy and scope were approved by the Joint Powers Board (JPB) in February. When complete, the plan will define the long-term vision for the fast-growing commuter rail system that connects San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Caltrain is collaborating with policymakers, stakeholders, Caltrain riders, and community members to make sure the Caltrain Business Plan considers everyone’s needs.

The Caltrain Board of Directors was recently given an update showing that long range demand for Caltrain service could increase by up to 300 percent, with 243,000 daily riders by 2040. Over the coming months, the Business Plan will analyze the choices the railroad will face as it considers options for growing service to meet this expanded demand.

The meetings will be held at the following locations:

November 13, 6-8 p.m.

San Mateo County Transit District Auditorium

1250 San Carlos Avenue, San Carlos

November 14, 6-8 p.m.

Mission Creek Senior Center

930 4th Street, San Francisco

November 26, 6-8 p.m.

Rose Garden Library

1580 Naglee Avenue, San Jose

###

About Caltrain: Owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, Caltrain provides commuter rail service from San Francisco to San Jose, with limited commute service to Gilroy. Caltrain enjoyed more than five years of consecutive monthly ridership increases, surpassing more than 65,000 average weekday riders. While the Joint Powers Board assumed operating responsibilities for the service in 1992, the railroad celebrated 150 years of continuous passenger service in 2014. Planning for the next 150 years of Peninsula rail service, Caltrain is on pace to electrify the system, reduce diesel emissions by 97 percent by 2040 and add more service to more stations.
